Hernando Zegarra, M.D.

Dr. Hernando Zegarra received his BS and MD degrees from Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru. He finished his residency in ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic. He also completed two fellowships, one in retinal fluorescein angiography at the Cleveland Clinic and another in ophthalmic and retinal diseases and surgery at Devers Eye Clinic, Good Samaritan Hospital, in Portland, Oregon. He was the director of the retinal electrophysiology and fluorescein angiography laboratories at the Cleveland Clinic before joining Retina Associates of Cleveland.

Dr. Zegarra is Board-certified in ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Cleveland Ophthalmological Society, the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland, and the Pan-American Ophthalmological Society. In 2011, he was listed in Best Doctors in America.

Dr. Zegarra is experienced in the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of vitreoretinal diseases. His principal areas of interest are hereditary disorders of the retina, laser treatment, and retinal vein occlusion. He has participated in over 40 clinical research trials. Dr. Zegarra lectures frequently at ophthalmology meetings in the United States and in South America.
