At the Cleveland Eye Clinic, we are proud to serve the people of our communities and their families—including their littlest members! Our optometry staff doctors are skilled and equipped to care for any common refractive issue, and are supported by our pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Pierre, for any emergency, complex, or surgical conditions.
Our doctors pride themselves on being able to perform very thorough eye examinations on children, even if they may feel nervous about their doctor’s visit, or may not be in the most cooperative mood, or may have special needs otherwise—especially if it means that we get to collect the data we need from them through “play”.
Eye exams for children at a young age are extremely important, as many children with vision problems often do not complain that they do not see well, as they may not know any different! Also, some childhood vision problems cannot be properly fixed later in life and MUST be caught early.
We diagnose, manage and treat children with:
- Misaligned eyes (strabismus)
- Poorly seeing / Lazy eye (amblyopia)
- Droopy eyelid (ptosis)
- Genetic eye disorders
- ANY vision disorder
The American Optometric Association recommends infants undergo a comprehensive eye examination at six months of age. Additional check-ups are recommended at age three, and immediately before entering kindergarten. If no vision correction is needed, exams every two to four years thereafter should be sufficient.
